Land Use Acreage for Mid-Shore Counties

Land Use Acreage for Mid-Shore Counties
Published June 17th, 2025

This interactive dashboard visualizes land use trends in Caroline, Dorchester, and Talbot counties, focusing on agricultural and forest land acreage in 2002 and 2010. Drawing on data from the Maryland Department of Planning, the dashboard allows users to toggle by county and see how land use has shifted over time.

For example, in Caroline County, agricultural land decreased slightly from 117,471 acres in 2002 to 115,748 acres in 2010, while forest land also declined modestly. These patterns highlight subtle land use changes that may reflect development pressure or shifts in conservation efforts.

The side-by-side bar chart format makes it easy for planners, conservationists, and policymakers to monitor land preservation and usage trends in the Mid-Shore region.

Key Features:

  • County Selector: Easily toggle between Caroline, Dorchester, and Talbot counties for county-specific insights.
  • Side-by-Side Year Comparison: Compare land use changes between 2002 and 2010.
  • Stacked Horizontal Bar Chart: Clearly shows total acreage by agriculture and forest land.

This resource is part of a series of dashboards developed to support the Mid-Shore Online CEDS.
