Average Mid-Shore Annual Unemployment Percentage
Published June 12th, 2025

This interactive dashboard provides a clear visualization of unemployment trends across Maryland’s Mid-Shore counties—Caroline, Dorchester, and Talbot—with comparisons to the statewide average for Maryland. Drawing on data from the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, the dashboard offers a long-term view of economic stability and labor market dynamics from 1996 to 2023.

Each county’s data is presented through color-coded line charts, making it easy to identify changes in unemployment rates over time. The chart also includes a line for the Maryland statewide average, enabling users to compare regional performance to the state as a whole.

For instance, Dorchester County consistently reported higher unemployment rates than the state average, peaking at 10.0% in 2009. By contrast, Talbot County has often maintained lower rates, finishing at just 2.1% in 2023, alongside Maryland's statewide rate. These insights are vital for understanding local economic resilience and identifying workforce support needs.

The dashboard’s clean design and extended time series make it a valuable resource for workforce planners, economic developers, and public officials focused on labor market conditions and long-term economic development in the Mid-Shore region.
